Applied sedimentology and petroleum geology

ECTS credit number: 3

Teaching manager: Claude Colombié (Lyon) / Emmanuelle Vennin (Dijon)

Main goals:

This course will introduce elemental knowledge in petroleum geology (such as hydrocarbons, their storage and some exploration-prospection skills used in the petroleum industry). It will show how the use of sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy and organic geochemistry helps respond to industrial and fundamental problematics (i.e.  to show how the same concepts may apply to different problematics).

Content:

  • videoconferencing with a former TOTAL engineer
  • organic geochemistry applications in the petroleum industry (hydrocarbon maturity, biodegradation index, etc.)
  • Applied sedimentology to fundamental problematics in Holocene and older than Holocene successions

This course might be taught in english.
