Geochemical approach to understanding the formation of planets

The objectives of this course is to explain how it is possible to constrain the formation of planets by studying the chemical and isotope composition of terrestrial planets including the Earth starting from dust present in a molecular cloud. This course includes an introduction to nucleosynthetis and to the protoplanetary discs. It then shows how meteorites provide information about thermal events associated with the building of planets and how isotope tracers are used to constrain these processes and the origin of planetary materials, with a focus on the chemical and physical processes that are involved.
